National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Did you know that October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)? Cyber security is important to all businesses, especially smaller ones. Smaller businesses are often more at risk for being targeted for cybercrimes because hackers know that those businesses don’t have as many defensive resources that larger companies have.

This is why the NCSAM was created: to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. The two most common attacks against small businesses are web-based attacks and phishing/social engineering. It’s important to provide employees with the resources they need to stay safe online and help reduce these cyber incidents.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) created a Cybersecurity Framework to help businesses identify and prioritize their cybersecurity actions and manage cyber risks. The framework is:

  • Identify
  • Protect
  • Detect
  • Respond
  • Recover
